Creating a Sanctuary

Project Overview

Plan: Create a fluid design incorporating numerous features and areas that all flow and have meaning.

Challenge: The lot was over 2 acres in size, and the house was higher and further back on the property than usual.

Result: The homeowners wanted a unique yard to complement their custom designed home, so we designed a space that flowed naturally from area to area, making every inch of the yard usable.

Because of the house placement on the property, we were required to build an 8-foot concrete retaining wall along the property line to support additional parking. This required some engineering, 15’ concrete piles, engineered backfill, water management system and tie back walls. We added a large paving stone patio that flows into the firepit area and natural boulders around the paths and seating areas. Our persistent team scribed the paving stone around the boulders, so everything would look as natural as possible. We also added a dry creek bed with a bridge feature, a massive vegetable garden, and a nine-hole mini-golf course at our clients’ request.
